Military Service

This has always been a superior place to live. The Saklan Native American people who lived among these valleys and hillsides protected it from other Native American groups. The Spanish saw the bounty and the possibilities and protected it from the English and Russians. The Mexicans who replaced the Spanish protected it from the Yankees. This area, this land, has always been worth protecting.

During our lifetimes, to protect it you served in the Military. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force or Coast Guard.. Some small percentage of those who lived here put themselves at risk and gave up some portion of their lifetime so that this area, as a part of the United States of America, could be protected.

If you were one of those you should be proud of your contribution, your time in the Military. It doesn’t matter if you served with a commission or as an enlisted person. You cared enough to make a commitment.

“We did what we were asked to do. That’s all we did.”

Patriotic Americans think about all of America, from sea to shining sea. But honestly, isn’t it really about protecting HOME? Our home, your home, Orinda, Moraga, Canyon and Rheem.

To borrow the slogan from the Veterans Adminidtrstion:

ALL GAVE SOME, SOME GAVE ALL

These gentle souls gave all, gave their lives. What do they have in common? They all identified their hometown as Orinda or Moraga and they were killed in action.

Are they Heros? Or are they just those who made the ultimate sacrifice that all who served were asked to possibly make. You can only respect them for their sacrifice. Honor and Respect, all we can give.
